First Line Friday is brought to you by Hoarding Books. Playing along is super easy. All you have to do is open the book nearest you and tell me what the first line is. Then check out the link to see the other first lines are offered up this week.
"Late in the evening of 1 January 1515 Mary Tudor became a widow when her husband, King Louis XII of France, died."
Full disclosure - Sarah is a friend of mine, and she was instrumental in encouraging me to start writing my own book about Eleanor of Aquitaine.
I really enjoy Sarah's books. She is passionate about her subjects and treats them with the care they deserve.
Leave a comment and let me know what you think.
Happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteToday on my blog I'm sharing the first couple of lines from No Greater Love by Gina Holder. It's a really good book! I'm currently on chapter 25, so I'll share the first line from there.
"If his sister fluffed his pillow one more time, Hamilton was going to lose his last shred of sanity."
Hope you have an excellent weekend. 😀❤📚
Happy Monday now! Thanks for sharing your line with me, here's to a week full of reading...we better get in all we can before school starts back up!
DeleteLooks intriguing!
ReplyDeleteToday on my blog I'm featuring the first line from No Greater Love by Gina Holder but It's also my current read so I'll share the first line from chapter 15 here: "Kathleen tucked her legs under the steering wheel of her rental." Hope you have a great weekend with lots of reading time!
Hey Becca! Thanks for sharing your line last week, hope you enjoyed the book and have a great week!
DeleteHere's my line (of the book I expect to finish this weekend)
ReplyDelete"It was on 9 September 1922 that the passions aroused by a decade of war descended on the city of Smyrna".
The Vanquished by Robert Gerwarth
Yeesh. Quite a line.
DeleteNice opening!
ReplyDeleteI think so too. I have yet to finish the book but it's really good.
DeleteHappy Friday! My first line is from "Edge of Truth" by Kimberly Rose Johnson:
ReplyDelete"The hair on Kara Nelson's neck prickled as she sat behind the wheel of her car parked near the Miami Beach Marina. Something wasn't right."
Thank you Becky, Happy Monday now!
DeleteI know that feeling all too well, hopefully things turned out all right for the character.
An interesting historical period!
ReplyDeleteToday I’m sharing on my blog the first line from The Art of Rivers by Janet W. Ferguson.
Love, like art, took on different forms with each creator.
The Tudors are one of my favorites. But I also love the Plantagenets dearly. It is a constant battle for which dynasty is more dysfunctional - which is really saying something, considering the Tudor dynasty lasted 200 fewer years!
DeleteHappy Friday! I'm sharing from The Crossing at Cypress Creek by Pam Hillman on my blog today. I'm only a few pages in, and this is my favorite line so far:
ReplyDelete"Her stomach did a slow roll at the unexpected lilt of an Irish brogue."
Happy Monday Yvette! I too am a sucker for an accent, especially one of the many varieties found in the UK.
DeleteToday I'm sharing the first lines from A Reluctant Bride by Jody Hedlund: "Hang on a little longer, my lamb. Happy reading and have a great rest of the weekend!
