Books From The Backlog #25

Books from the Backlog, hosted by Carole's Random Life in Books, is a fun way to feature some of those neglected books sitting on your shelf unread.

I am featuring books in the order that they were added to my Goodreads To-Read shelf, so sometimes there will be a couple weeks in a row of books on the same topic.

Why did I add Mexico: From the Olmecs to the Aztecs to my TBR?

Because there is so little I know about Mexico's history and there is so much to learn.

Have you read this book, or is it somewhere on your TBR? If you've read it, would you recommend it to others?

Happy Reading!

  1. Similar to you, I know very little about the history of Mexico. This does look really interesting and I hope you enjoy!

    1. Thank you Carole. The last one I read was so very dry, so I am hoping for a little more oomph with this one!

  2. I think it's fascinating- the Olmec, the Aztecs, all the Mesoamerican cultures really.

    1. I do too and it is so frustrating that so many of their texts are gone, and languages are lost. Luckily not all, but many.

  3. I've been picking up a few national history/culture books recently because, like you, I don't know enough about other countries histories. So far I'm looking at China, India, France and Italy. It's a start!

    1. I tried to read one on China's history but could not get into it. Let me know if you find something captivating. India is just way outside my interest zone. I have a love-hate relationship with France, and a fascination with Italy.

  4. You are right about Mexico having a long and little known history. My neglected book of the week is The Thrall's Tale by Judith Lindbergh, an historical fiction about three women in the Viking age set in tenth century Greenland. I have been skirting around this book for years and plan to read it in early 2020.

    1. I am interested to know how it goes. I just posted a review of a couple Viking books and that period is among my favorites. I am trying to add more fiction to my life, but in very small doses.
