My very first review (On Goodreads) of the year was for a book about one of my favorite childhood books
My last review (on Goodreads) for the year was for this one, which I live-Tweeted as I was reading, because it was absurd and ridiculous and had absolutely no factual accuracy to speak of
If you care to look, the on-going commentary after finishing the book, and all the aforementioned Tweets, can be found HERE. If you are unfamiliar with all the hub-bub about this, or confused as to why I would live-Tweet an 800+ page book that is terrible, check out this video by KirkpattieCake. Enjoy!

Welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
This week's topic is my best reads of 2019. This was a really interesting year, in which a ton of my very first reads in 2019 were suuuuuper good. I also read some really shitty drivel that made me want to poor bleach in my eyes just to unsee it, but that's a whole different post, which I will not actually write because it would be mean.
The only order here is chronological, from January up to this very moment. All received five stars, and I gushed about them either on my blog, or in my head thinking up reviews I fully intend to write...eventually.
BEST OF 2019
Happy Reading!
Sarah
(*There were actually quite a few middle grade spooky stories that I rated five stars, but I did not show them all here.)

The new McManus book is getting closer! I need to read some more Michael crichton too...
ReplyDeleteI CAAAAAAAAAN'T WAAAAAAAIT!!!!!! Except I am #16 on 6 books at the library. So, unfortunately, I HAVE to wait.
DeleteWow... fantastic! Happy 2020 reading!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, happy reading in 2020 to you as well!
DeleteThe Hate U Give is one of those titles where I've been saying "I really have to read it" ever since publication, but keep forgetting. So it's going on the priority list for 2020! This year I read a lot more non-fiction than usual and have been really enjoying it, I'm usually scared it will be difficult to get into, dry, boring, etc. But I've been proven wrong! I love that there are so many non-fiction titles on your list, I'm adding a bunch to my tbr.
ReplyDeleteI hope you will have another great reading year in 2020!
My TTT.
Thanks for visiting, Nikki! I LOVE non-fiction (as I am sure you guessed!) so if you are ever in need of more recs, I will be glad to provide them.
DeleteThe Hate U Give was So good and I am glad I branched out in order to read it. It is such a critical work and very timely.
Good luck to you in all your reading goals for 2020!
Found it hard to choose just ten, eh? ;)
ReplyDeleteNah, I never stick to just ten for this post, I always post all my five-stars of the year!
DeleteAhh, okay! Well, I'm looking forward to another year of seeing what you're reading!
DeleteI've never been good at following directions anyway, lol. I have some interesting ones lined up, I hope they turn out to be winners!
DeleteThanks so much for participating! I can see you had a great readingyear.
ReplyDeleteI hope 2020 brings you nothing but good :)
Of course! I'm so glad you started this one, thank you for including me!
DeleteWow, that's nearly a hundred thousand pages read. You must be exhausted ;-)
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!!
Totally worth it, Happy New Year!
DeleteSo many important books on here, but the one that stood out was Taking Eichman.
ReplyDeleteHere's my list: https://speedyreadercom.wordpress.com/2019/12/31/ttt-favorite-fiction-books-of-2019/
The Eichman book is really interesting, and absolutely critical to making younger generations understand that these criminals will be pursued and punished accordingly until the very last one is gone.
DeleteWow, I wish I could read as much as you. I counted picture books this year, but I didn’t even get to 100. I love that you read so many nonfiction books. A bunch of your favorites are on my TBR list.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
It's easy, just stop cleaning! Just kidding...mostly. My daughter goes to her dad's house every other weekend and a night during the week, so one way I take my mind off of her being gone is t read and read and read! Which books are on your TBR? Maybe once you read them, we can talk about them! I am so behind on reviews, OI!
DeleteI had to laugh when I saw The Wrythe and the Reckoning. A 1286 page debut romance (yeah it was 800 pages but somehow it ballooned to 1286 after the controversy hit, like she had to make it worse by adding words or something)? There's no agent (outside of schmagents) that would take that one! Congrats on your great reading year!
ReplyDeleteIT WAS SO BAD! Did you see my review?? I live-Tweeted as I was reading, and the link to the Tweets is also in the review. Feel free to share far and wide ;)
DeleteI really liked City of Bones, and I have The Five on my wish list. You have a lot of nonfiction books I'd like to read!

The Five was SO good, and unlike anything else out there to read about the Ripper - mainly because we finally get portraits of the women in their lives, not in their brutal deaths. He is excluded from the narrative almost entirely and I was so grateful to learn more about the victims who did not deserve what happened to them.
DeleteIt looks like you had a great year of reading! Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteIt really was a great year, Happy New Year!
DeleteThe Hate You Give is such a good book. So is The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.
ReplyDeleteI want to read Two Can Keep A Secret this year.
The Hate U Give was so, so good. But also hard for me, and I cried for most of it. I spent the last seven years before this school year as a Behavior Skills Program teacher, in a self-contained classroom for students with behavior disorders. There are a disproportionate amount of Black males in special education and so often I would look at these kiddos who I love so much and worry what might happen to them after they left elementary school. I had some kiddos who were big for their ages, looked so much older than they were, and I know that not everyone outside of school will look at them and know them the way I and our paraprofessionals do. The book is so powerful, I wish it was required reading for everyone.
