I am so warred-out right now, but I do want to delve deeper into FDR/Churchill in the future. I have avoided WWI for such a long time, because it is just so utterly depressing. Like, it was thought to be the war to end all wars, and all it really did was set up Europe for an even worse one later on. Oi. Too much for me, sometimes. A lot of the time, actually.
DeleteI've been watching a LONG series of YouTube video on WW1 lately which is why I'm picking up books about it again. Yes, the whole thing was VERY depressing in SO many ways - a barbaric war even by human standards - but there's still lots to be interested in (away from the muddy trenches) and it IS very important mostly for its technology and numerous knock-on effects (like WW2!, The Russian Revolution, and the collapse of pretty much every European Empire....). But I AM trying hard to keep my war reading to a *reasonable* minimum.
DeleteYes, I would much rather read about the societal and cultural impacts than the actual military actions. I have tried a few times with various books about the big battles and I just can't get through them.

DeleteI've been meaning to try a book by Wendy Webb! I didn't care much for The Wife Between Us, but that might have been because I listened to it on audio. Hope you have a great week of reading!
ReplyDeleteOh thank goodness, I didn't like it either!! Like, the only twist that I actually liked was the one at the very end, because it is the ONLY ONE THAT MADE SENSE!

The covers were truly gorgeous. One book was so great and I loved it. The other, meh. But I won't say which, in case you are reading them also. I ended up not really like The Wife Between Us at all, except for the very last twist because it is the only one that made sense to me. I wish I would have liked it more.

Yay for more library reads!! Glad you are able to visit again. A few more of our branches have opened now. Hours are still limited compared to what they were before, but it is nice. Plus they still offer curbside for those who want/need it.
