Thanks, Terrie! I am never very sure how a First Reads will turn out for me - I am pretty picky about my fiction and will never choose anything outside the thriller category, and they almost never have non-fiction. Such a bummer. Hope you liked your pick this month!

I was about to very upset with you, buddy. But I misread your fiction and non-fiction stacks, so you're lucky! I am curious about the headaches one, and if it delves into migraines? I have stress-induced-a-typical migraines and they are a bitch. Feels like the whole right side of my face is melting when one comes on. Luckily they've been (mostly) under control for the last seven years or so, but I think I am due for a med check soon. Headaches are occurring more frequently which has almost never happened since I started the meds. It's a literal pain.

I'm intending on reading the headaches books soon(ish). Certainly before Christmas. I assume it's going to cover migraines. It would be odd if it didn't. I've had headaches at least since my teens. Part of that was my eyesight and I've had glasses since around 1976. I thought that part of it was the odd spell of caffeine withdrawal but now I'm not so sure. I've barely had a headache in the last 2+ years.... ever since I retired..... So I'm starting to think they might have been produced by lack of enough sleep and stress.... The last book I read on migraines was written in the 1970's so I'm hoping that this one is more informative [grin] I'll let you know if I can recommend it to you.

DeleteMine are definitely stress-related. They always begin above the top right side of my right eye, and sometimes if they are bad enough, radiate down the whole side of my face and skull and to my neck, hence the face-melting feeling I get. Before meds it was so unbearable, I'd be in so much pain I would throw up. All lights and sounds had to be off and all I could do to cure it was to sleep - except for the fact that I struggle to sleep without noise in the background (basically, before Eleanor and whenever she is with her dad, I fall asleep to Friends every night on the lowest volume possible where I can just barely hear what they're saying. I've seen the series dozens of times, so it is one I love but that I know won't keep me awake since I have seen it so many times).

ReplyDeleteI liked his first volume, which I also got on BookSirens - we might have talked about it? I was impressed with the stories he chose, and how he was not sensationalistic or gross about the crimes. I was psyched to see his second volume out so soon.
