DeleteOf course...! It's a really fun book to dip in and out of... and I do love 'odd' words or stories around the origins of phrases we use every day.
DeleteI figured. I do love weird words and there are so many from the medieval vocab and renaissance that I would love to see come back into rotation.
DeleteI used the word 'winnowing' in a report @ work. Oh, the trouble and confusion *that* caused... [lol]

Delete3 of my senior managers asked me to take it out. I refused. Then it was mentioned in a bigwig meeting as a word no one had heard of and a minion was sent away to look it up. My senior manager told her colleague sitting next to her that it was me. It made me SO proud!

DeletePretty much, yes. I think that they might have wanted not to 'embarrass' people higher up the food chain. I said that it was a learning opportunity for them. Maybe they thought I was being 'elitist'.....! [lol]

The Vanishing is more Gothic-y mystery and Shadows isn't really horror but it is more than just YA thriller, there are lots of supernatural elements. Both decent reads!
DeleteTwo with spooky houses on the front - definitely giving a horror/thriller vibe. Hope you enjoy them!

DeleteSomeone else who got two books this week. I feel happy when I have a low number since I have so many books I'm still trying to read that I've already bought. But so many good books are calling my name.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. And I am trying to focus on reviews again and slow down; no joke, I have hundreds of reviews waiting to be written. I've already whittled down the list of books I don't want to review, it is obscene.
