Books From The Backlog #38

Books from the Backlog, hosted by Carole's Random Life in Books, is a fun way to feature some of those neglected books sitting on your shelf unread.

I am featuring books in the order that they were added to my Goodreads To-Read shelf, so sometimes there will be a couple weeks in a row of books on the same topic.

Why did I add Vanished Kingdoms to my TBR?

Because Europe as we know it today is nothing close to what it once was, the duchies, empires, and kingdoms that have all but disappeared from the map and history. I LOVE that kind of history and I am here for it 100%.

Have you read this book, or is it somewhere on your TBR? If you've read it, would you recommend it to others?

Happy Reading!
Sarah

  1. I haven't heard of this one but it looks like something I'd really like. I'm fascinated by just how recently certain countries were actually unified.

    1. Same here! So many countries as we know them now did not actually exist sometimes two hundred or even one hundred years ago.

  2. Europe was definitely much more interesting hundreds of years ago...

    1. Agreed! I find my interest for Europe starts to wane when it enters the modern age - especially in the UK. It is funny because I love Scotland, but find that once the Tudors are gone (and even once Mary is gone from the throne), I lose interest.

  3. This is new to me, but I am fascinated by the old kingdoms and what they were like before they disappeared into something else.

    1. it is really interesting to look at old maps and see just how drastically different borders are today.
