I LOVE The Ship of Dreams! Gareth Russell is a great writer and I think you will enjoy it. His book on Catherine Howard is beyond fantastic.

I am hoping I like it better than her other book I've read, "It Ended Badly" about various relationships in history that ended rather terribly. The problem with it is that she trifled too much and didn't get all the facts right - though I probably know a lot more about Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry II than her, so maybe I should cut her a little slack as it was more pop-culture type writing of history instead of actual scholarship.

ReplyDeleteLittle Women by Louisa May Alcott: I ordered a used 1947 Illustrated Junior Library edition to see if it was the one I read as a child. It was! I recognized the illustrations and the cover right away!
The Power of the Dog by Don Winslow, ebook, because I am getting ready to read all his books in order.
I love finding books from my childhood too! In elementary school I was obsessed with a book called Mystery of the Pirate's Ghost by Elizabeth Honness. I checked that book our repeatedly, and read it easily a hundred times in elementary school. I kept hoping our librarian would let me keep it, like the shopkeeper did for Belle in Beauty and the Beast, but no luck. Disney gave me more unrealistic expectations about librarians/booksellers than they did about men!
