Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature co-hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality. It is a chance to showcase all the goodies you've collected throughout the week, whether they're bought on-line or in-store, an ARC or a final copy, borrowed from a friend or the library, physical or digital, etc.

Happy Reading!

A reasonable 3 from me this week:
ReplyDeleteFiction:
The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman
Non-Fiction:
The Winter War - The Russo-Finnish War of 1939-40 by William R Trotter
Why We're Polarized by Ezra Klein
Very reasonable indeed. Are you still on lockdown?
DeleteYes, 'Lockdown' is still in effect although it only means that non-essential shops are closed and sports events are cancelled etc... So I still see people out walking dogs, jogging and such. Not expecting it to be lifted until March. Presently have 3 in the post but I'm guessing only 2 will arrive before the next STS post.
DeleteHopefully it can be lifted in March, because that will mean people are taking it a little more seriously this time around. Although I suppose that's asking for an awful lot... *eyeroll*
DeleteFather and Son: Edmund Gosse... so far, informative and illuminating... and an international sci fi omnibus...
ReplyDeleteI look forward to the review/report!
DeleteOh wow, you got Unseen City!
ReplyDeleteTwo for me this week, both for reading groups
Furious Hours: Murder, Fraud, and the Last Trial of Harper Lee by Casey Cep
Afterlife by Julia Alvarez
Furious Hours is on my TBR and I am dying to read it. Maybe I will "read along" with your group if our library has it.
DeleteI really loved the historical and paranormal aspects of Unseen City. I read it in a matter of hours. I was less enthused with the main character herself, though I did appreciate some of her astute observations. I felt deeply for Iris, and was so relieved for an ending that did not leave me devastated.
you got some good stuff! I got a few manga this week but nothing else.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I have read all three already, two were great one was okay. Hopefully this review slump goes away so I can actually talk about them all soon!
DeleteI really want to read We Keep The Dead Close. I saw it on a lot of “best books” lists at the end of last year. I hope you enjoy all these!
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Thank you, Aj! I was surprised with its lower rating on Goodreads- though I guess for most people 3.86 isn't super low, but I thought for sure it would be a 4+. I loved it, and constantly had to control myself from looking up any information about the case, so I could discover it as the author did. I did skim over the parts where she talked specifically about herself and her boyfriend and their break-up or whatever, but I really liked this one.
DeleteOooh! That "No, you Shut Up" book sounds interesting! Great haul!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my Stacking the Shelves!
Ronyell @ Rabbit Ears Book Blog
Thank you, Ronyell! I am a huge fan of Symone Sanders and she is a powerful voice that we need, but the book didn't quite hit home for me. I know many will love it though and definitely encourage others to read it. It was on sale last week for $2.99 (Kindle), so grab it if you are interested!
DeleteAww. I miss the library. I have to pay $40/yr for the one where I live now, since I live outside city limits, so that combined with COVID has me weary.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy your new books though! Thanks for visiting Shell's Stories!
Ouch! In a normal year I would not mind that price, but during COVID it seems like the fee should be much lower for those outside city limits, especially if branches were closed and only curbside was available. I hope that you will be able to enjoy your library again in the near-future, thanks for coming by!
