Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature brought to you by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there's a new topic and who doesn't love making lists? It's also a fun way to meet other book bloggers and find new books to add to that ever-unwieldy TBR list.

I am super excited about this one because it is all about future releases that I can't wait to get my hands on. Seriously, I am practically dying over here.

May 30: Top Ten Most Anticipated Books for the Second Half of 2017

While you will find a far shorter list than usual, I am so very psyched to read all four of them. Here they are, in order by release date.

Seriously. Dying.

31742371

Publication Date: May 17th

I am kind of cheating a little with this one because it was actually just released here in the US, in what is still the first half of 2017. But you may know by now I tend to bend the rules a lot so, you're welcome. I know my fair share about Alfred the Great, but know much less about his children. Once again, my little Eleanor is lucky I discovered Eleanor of Aquitaine before Boudicca, or now Aethelflaed.

Publication Date: September 1st (UK)

(The author has informed me that while there is not yet a US date set, it will be released here eventually. In the meantime, he did also let me know that The Book Depository does FREE worldwide shipping, so...)

I always enjoy a good argument for whether or not Richard III ordered his nephews to be murdered. I used to unequivocally believe that yes he was the culprit. I still believe so, but now am much more open-minded about other possibilities. This book explores not the death of the princes, but the possible LIFE they might have had instead. What if they were not murdered at all, but managed to survive both the fall of the Plantagenets and rise of the Tudors?

Publication Date: September 7th (UK), September 19th (US)

Duh.

My stomach does flip-flops just thinking about this one. I had to include both covers here, as I prefer the UK one (left) to the US one. I. CAN'T. WAIT. I am especially looking forward to it because there seems to be so much utter garbage popping up lately AGAIN about the so-called Templar caves and other rubbish. Hopefully people pick this one up to help them differentiate between fact and fiction.

34179123

Publication date: August 15th (UK), November 1st (US)

I just stumbled across this one by accident and am so glad I did. While I have a pretty good knowledge base about Henry VII, I don't know nearly as much as I'd like to about his mother, father, and uncles - or any of his extended family.

What books are you most excited for? Let me know what you think of my choices and leave me a link to your TTT as well.

Happy Reading!
Sarah

  3. Interesting looking books! I've always been fascinated by the Princes in the Tower plots and I enjoy some good conspiracy theories about it. I really need to try something by Dan Jones...might treat myself this summer!

    1. The princes are so endlessly fascinating to me too. When I was younger it never occurred to me that there could be others who had the means and motive to do away with the boys, I just kind of accepted that Richard had them killed.

As for Dan Jones...well you already know how I feel about reading his books ;) The only bummer is, I have all his others in paperback, so I'll have to check the Templars one out at the library and waaaaaiiittttt to get it in paperback next year - but the UK cover, of course!

  4. The Templars looks great, and I think you've said in the past that Dan Jones writes good, well- researched stuff. I'm putting that on my list, have always been fascinated with the Templars. I like that UK cover better too.

    1. Yes, he is a fantastic historian. I have all his books. There's one about the Plantagenets (my fave), one about the Wars of the Roses/Fall of Plantagenets and Rise of the Tudors, one about Magna Carta, and one about the Peasants Revolt. I highly recommend reading all of them if you can. He digs deep into the material without being so overly academic that he alienates those with less knowledge of who/what he is writing about. But he is still very thorough.

    1. Thank you Lillian, and thanks for coming by! All of the books I have listed above are non-fiction, if you have any suggestions for historical fiction on these topics, I'd be interested in hearing a few!

  9. The Survival of the Princes in the Tower looks fascinating and that's good to know about Book Depository. I've been pro-Richard the III since reading Daughter of Time by Josephine Tey so I'm curious to know a little more about this puzzle. Adding The House of Beaufort to my TBR too. I know almost nothing about the family. Great list!

    1. It will be interesting to read because I think it will be a fresh look at some options that have not really been considered seriously before. And I am sure it will drum up a bit of controversy too. I am very decidedly anti-Richard, but not only because of his possible role in the murder of the boys, but for the mere fact alone that he stole a throne that did not belong to him. I love talking about this topic, so I would love to hear your thoughts once we've both had a chance to read it!

  10. I just stumbled across your blog, though I've been blogging off & on for many years! You may think by looking at my own blog that I'm all about genre fiction, but I actually read, and have read, many historical books... got hooked because my adult son is such a nonfiction history buff.

We currently were reading about Washington's spies and watching Turn on tv. My son made a point of visiting Mt. Vernon when he worked in DC. One topic of many.

I'm interested in the boys in the tower title, but also about Henry the VIII's family too. I like to read 18th-19th century British fiction and should read more nonfiction from there. I'm also fascinated by Iceland after reading a couple of fiction titles set there, including Burial Rites.

I can't wait to browse through your past bookish thoughts and actually learn some historical things from you. Thanks-- keep up the good work!

    1. Thank you for stopping by, I am glad you found my blog! I've always been interested in history but really discovered my passions a couple years ago when I was pregnant with my daughter and living in a new city for a new job, with no friends. I spent A LOT of time at the library and have been consuming non-fiction by the truckload ever since!

I have that same book about Washington - a reading goal this year for me was to read a book about each president NOT named Washington, Lincoln, or Kennedy, but I can't resist adding them in anyway. I love DC and would love to visit as an adult in the future. Our 8th grade class trip visited and I enjoyed the city quite a bit. It was awesome to be surrounded by so much history.

I am in love with Scotland, and England, and Ireland. But mostly Scotland. I find that my interest starts to taper off during the reign of James VI/I, so I almost entirely 16th century and earlier. I especially love the Anglo-Saxons also. Iceland, Greenland, etc are all very intriguing to me too because those Vikings are in a class by themselves for sure.

I am glad you found my little blog and I hope you find some books that are of interest to you. Then, once you've read them, we can talk about them. I appreciate your kind works and look forward to chatting more with you in the future.
