Yeah.......... Nothing added from me................! [lol]
ReplyDeleteA reasonably bumper NINE from me this week - although I suspect most of them will hold no interest for you. All are non-fiction.
How Markets Fail - The Logic of Economic Calamities by John Cassidy
Lying for Money - How Legendary Frauds Reveal the Workings of Our World by Dan Davies
The Scots - A Genetic Journey by Alistair Moffat
Bloody Foreigners - The Story of Immigration to Britain by Robert Winder
Metazoa - Animal Minds and the Birth of Consciousness by Peter Godfrey-Smith
War on Peace - The Decline of American Influence by Ronan Farrow
Nothing is Real - The Beatles Were Underrated and Other Sweeping Statements About Pop by David Hepworth
1971 - Never a Dull Moment by David Hepworth
Cowboys and Indies - The Epic History of the Record Industry by Gareth Murphy
I liked Moffat's book 'Before Scotland so I will add that one. I have been going back and forth on Farrow's book for ages now. His 'Catch and Kill', on Weinstein and those shitbags was fantastic, but I don't know that I can yet sit through this one. But maybe. See, there I go again, back and forth.
DeleteI *think* that the Moffat books - 'Genetic Journey' & 'Before Scotland' *might* be the same one. I know that my book had "updated" on it so it might be a title change. I know they do that weird thing with US and UK editions which has confused me in the past.
DeleteHmmmm. I will investigate further. On Goodreads they were different entries but I think we all know Goodreads gets things wrong.
DeleteOver here I think 'Before Scotland' is called 'Scotland: A History from Earliest Times'. It does look like a different book & seems to have been published 5-6 years after the DNA one. Confusing, isn't it!
DeleteVery! The covers are always different from the UK vs the US, but usually the titles are the same - or very similar. And the UK cover is almost always better than the US one.
DeleteI didn't add anything this week. No need to. The reading queue is full. I did finish a couple of good books, to be reviewed soon.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to take a look!
Deletea rare moon adventure from a press in India...
ReplyDeleteIntriguing! I look forward to the review!
DeleteBlackbeard. Even though pirates in real life were obviously so different from the romantic notions, I'm still drawn to accounts of them. :)
ReplyDeleteI am too! Unfortunately this one was blech. Hoping to have the review up sometime this week!
DeleteI recently bought The Hunting Party! Haven't read it yet but I can't wait to!
ReplyDeleteIt was really good! I like Foley a lot, and will be reading more of her work. Have you read The Guest List yet? Even better, IMO.
DeleteOooh a castles book! Always fun. :D
ReplyDeleteRight?! But total false advertising in a way, because it is a bright, cheery cover on a book that ended up being mostly about ghosts in said castles. I like paranormal stuff, just wasn't expecting that with this one.
DeleteThey all look lovely. I got a few new ones this week, though all fiction:
ReplyDeleteAbulhawa, Susan "Against the Loveless World" - 2020
Dangarembga, Tsitisi "Nervous Conditions" - 1988
Dangarembga, Tsitsi "This Mournable Body" - 2018
Wood, Levison "Eastern Horizons. Hitchhiking the Silk Road" - 2017
No wrong, the last one is a travel book.
DeleteEnjoy your new books!
DeleteI do enjoy a good travel book, they can be great to help you go places when you have to stay where you are!
