First Line Friday #213

First Line Friday is a weekly feature and simple to do - grab the book nearest you and post the first line. Carrie hosts this over on her blog Reading is my Superpower.

We probably think we know what we mean by a book.

Happy Reading!

  1. Looks interesting!

I’m currently reading Marrying Noel by Melanie D Snitker, which has been sitting on my Kindle for ages. Here’s the first line:

“Noel Echolls visually perused the Monday column in her planner.”

  2. "In the summer of 1969, when I was eleven, I bought a stereo system at the local hi-fi shop."

This is Your Brain on Music - Understanding a Human Obsession by Daniel Levitin.

    1. Just *pushing* through the first bit. It's rather technical and outside my comfort/knowledge zone....

    3. First 40 pages were just too 'technical' as the author explained (seemingly endlessly) definitions of things like tempo, melody etc.... It was really hard to keep them all in my head... Then (finally) when he got to some more interesting bits - essentially the actual brain stuff - it was all just a bit too.... speculative. It probably didn't help that it was 18 years old now... Some interesting bits, but few & far between. My next read (this was the first of a 'coupling') was much better - about how various plant-based drugs affect the mind.

    4. Bummer. I didn't realize it was that old - there's probably better books now with new research. Or, at least maybe there will be.

  3. Happy Friday!
I'm currently reading Lassoed into Love by Rachel Eliker. So far, it's cute. 🙂
"I bumped the knife drawer shut with my hip and turned to slice the pile of lettuce I'd brought in from the garden."
I hope you have an excellent weekend filled with relaxing reading time. 🙂❤️📚
