You might notice a little change here, Eleanor has decided to go by Nora now. One of the things I loved about the name from the start - besides the fact that Eleanor of Aquitaine was a badass queen - is that it is versatile; my girl could choose what she wanted to be called, whether it was Eleanor, Elle, Ellie, Nor, or Nora.
Each month Nora and I share the chapter books we read either together or that she's read on her own. I love that she is exploring new genres and finding new authors to love.

Some memories come up when seeing Tuck Everlasting, we had so many in our little book sale in the school.
ReplyDeleteNice to see that she reads Steinbeck. That could become a lifelong love.
And the Tudors. I must admit, I have not seen that one.

Nora says thank you! I have a tattoo from Tuck Everlasting, it's one of my favorite books from my childhood. I am so glad Eleanor loves it too. She is readng Steinbeck for school, and she's only in 7th grade (she's 12), so that's pretty cool. I don't remember reading him until high school.
DeleteSome kids read early. Christoph read Lord of the Rings when he was eleven and everyone went, oh, I didn't even understand it when I was twice his age.
DeleteRight, I read To Kill a Mockingbird when I was 11 on my own one day when I found it on my uncle's bookshelf. We just didn't start Steinbeck until high school, so I think it's really great that it was assigned in middle school. Not sure how much she likes it yet, but the school year is almost over so we will find out shortly!

ReplyDeleteI loved it too!! Eleanor's whole 7th grade class got to watch the film at a theatre here that does special showings after reading the book. She loves them both so much. Did you like the Broadway show as much as the book/movie? It's something that was just such a big part of my childhood, and I don't want to see the Broadway show if it changes things too much.
