Here we go!
This is year FIVE of Tackling the TBR and I finally have things sort-of under control. My ultimate goal is to get under 500 books, but I also have to be realistic - just think of all the books not even written yet that I will want to read. When I started this mess I was at well over 5,000 books on the TBR, so to be where I am now is pretty incredible.
I will post on the 7th, 14th, 21st, and last day of the month.

You DNF'd Paper Ghosts???? Not YOU? I really liked it - as you know. Wassup with it?
ReplyDeleteI don't know...I could not connect with the main character. I couldn't tell if she was an unreliable narrator or not because sometimes she came across that way. Normally I LOVE an unreliable narrator, but I think it was throwing me off because I couldn't tell. I have also binged a ton of fiction lately and need to dive back into my non-fiction treasures to get out of this slump. I might go back to it later, I got a decent way in. To just after they went to that old Victorian and pretended they wanted to buy it.
DeleteWOW. That's a *long* way in. I don't think I could've DNFd it at that point. But I guess it took you like, what, a few hours???? So, not that much time 'wasted'... I'll try to pick a better one for you next time. [grin]
DeleteYeah, not too long on it. It was kind of touch and go for whether I would DNF or not, but then a couple more books came in today and I REALLY want to read those. Don't tell me what happens, in case I got back to it, but at least will you tell me if she really is an unreliable narrator or not? Maybe if I know, then it will work better for me.
DeletePersonally I *hate* unreliable narrators - so..... I didn't think she was one. It never felt that way to me anyway. What made you think that she was?
DeleteThey're so much fun though, especially when it turns out they're the sociopaths! lol. Whenever she brought up her preperations and plans for how she was going to pull this off, I couldn't tell if maybe she was also a serial killer. It was intense, all the work she planning she put into it. And yes it was important because she needed to know what happened to her sister, but she was very methodical like a serial killer might be.
DeleteI find the whole Waco/Koresh situation utterly fascinating. Have you watched the miniseries on it?
ReplyDeleteSame! I remember coming home from school every day and watching live coverage of the stand-off. it was insane. The Koresh book was a decent read, his childhood was pretty messy and fucked up, but it doesn't excuse him wanting to marry young teenagers, and getting dozens of people killed. I am really interested in the Jeff Guinn book on the topic, I feel like he's a pretty thorough historian and I really loved his book about the OK Corral. He also has one about Jonestown, and Bonnie and Clyde.
