First Line Friday: Bible Lands Edition!

First Line Friday is brought to you by Hoarding Books.

It's been a minute since I've been able to do one of these. Life in general has been hectic, I am trying to get caught up on reviews, get galleys finished, work on my own research and get the first draft done, etc. Lots going on around here, to say the least.

Naturally, I help things along by stopping everything and doing something completely different and not on the priority list at the moment. what can I say, that's how I roll.

I am super excited about this one because I LOVE LOVE LOVE anything to do with the Holy Land and places discussed in the Bible. Side note, I am also a huge fan of anything related to Biblical archaeology and a few years ago when archaeologists discovered a gate to the city of Gath - you know, Goliath's hometown - it was pretty cool. Who knows what else is out there waiting to be discovered. Not just in terms of the Bible, but in general history. There's still so much to know and find!

"Before the writing of recorded history on clay tablets, pharaohs, kings, warriors, and commoners trudged across the Bible lands."

This is one of my fave kinds of history and I can't wait to get further into the book.

Let me know what you think and happy reading!
Sarah

  1. Ooh this looks awesome. I love the idea of Biblical archaeology and the thought of finding or seeing some of those places. Especially the very ancient stuff.

  2. Happy Friday!!

My FLF comes from a book I’m hoping to get to soon, Looking for a Hero by Debbie Macomber.

Savannah Charles watched the young woman wandering around her bridal shop, checking prices and looking more discouraged by the moment. Her shoulders slumped and she bit her lip when she read the tag on the wedding gown she’d selected.

    Have a great weekend!!

"Teleprinters chattered and telephones buzzed, and Dorothy carried a stack of diagrams into the intelligence office."

    1. I can't even begin to imagine what else is beneath Jerusalem, most of which we will probably never get to see.

  9. Makes me want to visit! My church takes a group to Israel every other year. Next one is 2019.

Here's the first line from the book I just started:

Not much had changed about Laurel Cove, North Carolina in the ten years since Livy Johnson had last visited. (Someplace Familiar by Teresa Tysinger)

    1. Me too, I want to see all the amazing places that still exist. I don't know if I would be able to leave once I got there though, being surrounded by all of that history. Happy Friday!

  10. That does sound good! I'm sharing from Michelle Griep's The Innkeeper's Daughter on my blog today. Here is the first (two) line(s) from one of my other current reads, Winter in Thrush Green by Miss Read:

"Autumn had come early to Thrush Green. The avenue of horse-chestnuts, which ran across its northerly end, blazed like a bonfire."

    1. Yes, it was much-needed. I want to be more active with my blog this year because I really let it go last year and did not post as much. But three features a week, plus a monthly one, has gotten to be a bit much so I am kind of rotating which ones I take breaks from, so I do not burn out!

I am only a few pages in but I am really liking it so far. I want to see these places so badly for myself. Happy Saturday :)

  13. I, too, am fascinated by Biblical archeology. To see things that were in use in King David's day, or Jesus's day...It makes it all the more real!!!

    Happy Saturday!!!

On my blog, I'm sharing the first lines from Lisa T. Bergren's fantastic novel, Keturah. Here, I will share the first lines from the novel I'm currently reading, A Brush with the Beast by Richard Sones.

"Good night, Mr. D," chirped an elderly secretary as Nick left his office on another late night. Slim, young, black briefcase in hand, he walked briskly toward the door.

    1. Wouldn't it be amazing?? I really want to go to Jerusalem some day and see these places. I can't even imagine the weight of being surrounded by all that history and know that I was walking places that Jesus had walked. My tummy gets all fluttery just thinking about it. I wish more excavation was allowed under the Temple Mount but I highly doubt it will happen any time soon. Happy Saturday!
