    1. I ended up not really liking it, but read to the end just to see what nonsense would resolve the situation. I keep hearing about Squid Game but never bother to look up what people are taking about. Eleanor and I don't actually have a television - or, we do, but sine the Wii stopped supporting Netflix a couple years ago, all we have the capability to watch are movies/shows on DVD. It's actually quite lovely!

    2. Squid Game... is super violent. The first episode is hard to get through. It picks up after that but again it's violent. I was not going to watch it just because I didn't really know anything about it, but then tried it on a whim. It does get compelling though...

I don't have cable I just do streaming, but I think that's cool you don't have a TV. I mean, there's something to be said for that :)

    3. Yikes, I just looked it up and no thanks!! Honestly, I don't miss television at all. Our main tv in the living room went out not long after Wii stopped supporting Netflix; I could no longer adjust the color and contrast to make it look normal, it went completely white. Now it is a prop upon which to display Eleanor's artwork. The smaller (older) tv is my room is what we use and that's it.

    4. Yeah I ended up watching it on a whim. I'm so conflicted about it. Like on the one hand I'm glad I watched it and it is interesting- I was curious what your take would be on some of the twists- but on the other hand it's so over the top violent and why would anyone DO these things? So... yup! And I would miss streaming some shows, but I als thought I'd miss cable when I gave it up and I don't one bit!

    5. I don't think I will be checking it out, sorry! I read a couple episode summaries and that was it for me. We have so many DVDs of movies and shows we love, we really don't miss television at all. Netflix was hard to be away from at first, but now we don't really even think about it.

  4. Cleo is an interesting historical character. Pretty confusing when LOTS of her ruling family were actually called Cleopatra. This was was XIV wasn't she (from memory). Always amuses me when people get angry with her being portrayed as *white* in movies etc when people expect her to be black or Arabic looking. The Ptolemy family are Greek! [lol] Hopefully its a good read. Wouldn't mind finding out more about her myself. VERY smart cookie.

Anyway - Just 3 from me this week... All non-fiction.

Affluence without Abundance - What We can Learn From the World's Most Successful Civilisation by James Suzman
The Romans Who Shaped Britain by Sam Moorhead & David Stuttard
MI9 - A History of the Secret Service for Escape and Evasion in World War Two by Helen Fry

    1. YES!! It's like everyone forgets she was Greek, not Egyptian. Then I have to remind myself that not everyone loves history like we do, so...oi. I have high hopes for this one.

You now I can NEVER look away from anything related to Roman Britain. How dare you!! lol

    2. Those who do not know History are doomed to be DUMB about it.... [grin] I'm far too often tempted to tell people to do their bloody research before mouthing off on stuff - and by research I don't mean 10 minutes on Facebook or Twitter! [lol]

Sorry about the Romans..... I think I'm getting a bit of an Ancient World bug ATM - Winter must be coming!

    3. Oh good Lord, if you catch that bug now, my TBR is really going to topple!

YES!! I love the people who think "do your own research" means finding randoms on FB, Twitter, or YouTube who agree with their stupid opinions and don't understand confirmation bias. Some idiots tried to argue with me about vaccines and said I needed to do my own research, so I asked them what peer reviewed journals they got their info from on double-blind studies regarding vaccines and Covid. None of them knew what any of my words meant. Big surprise.

    1. It just came out in March of this year so hopefully your library has it. She is such a fascinating figure to me. I hope this one is a good read because the other two were duds.

    1. I really thought I would like it based on your review, because who doesn't love melodramatic made for tv movies? Except I just could not stand the main character! She had this big trauma and I still could not root for her. I couldn't root for any of them, even the house manager. I kind of wished everyone would have died :-|
