Each week I will be keeping track of books that I have read from my TBR. I have a huge backlog of books and often end up reading new books that are not even on my list, instead of trying to whittle down the list that continues to balloon up on Goodreads. Chuckles had the idea first, and we are going to use this as a chance to encourage each other to get those books read instead of always grabbing new ones and thus never making a dent in the physical and digital stacks we already have. It will also give us a chance to take a good look at our lists and see if there are ones we are no longer interested in. We will be posting on the 7th, 14th, 21st, and the last day of the month.
Previous Week's TBR Total: 4,196
Books Added to TBR This Week: 26
Books Added to TBR This Week: 26
Books Removed from TBR This Week: 195
Currently Reading: 10
Books Finished This Week: 10
Books Finished This Week: 10
Books DNF-ed This Week: 3
Duplicates Removed: 1
New TBR Total: 4,012
If you look at my 'Currently Reading' on Goodreads, you will find the number much bigger, due to all the research materials I have listed there. The number here accurately reflects the books I am reading myself, as well as chapter books Eleanor and I are reading together. It also includes the chapter books I am reading with my students in guided reading groups at school.
Is your TBR under control, or a hot mess like mine?
Happy Reading!
Sarah
195 removed- that's pretty good!
ReplyDeleteI was pleasantly surprised by my progress this week. I have really been trying to remove books that I am no longer interested in reading, but it is so hard! So on Goodreads I just set the filter to 'random' and scroll through, deleting items that I know I will never read. It is kind of liberating!
DeleteGood job this week Sarah! You're really making progress!
ReplyDeleteThanks Chuckles, I am on a mission! Goodreads has made it pretty easy for me lately. I set my To-Read list to random, and it has really helped clear out some random titles that I look at and think, "Why the hell did I ever think I was going to read that?!"
DeleteThis is so good. It makes me take stock. For me, I finished two from TBR lists: Warlight by Michael Ondaatje (because it is a Tournament of Books 2019 contender) and The Loved Ones by Sonya Chung (because I am catching up on books from my subscription to The Nervous Breakdown Book Club.) On we go!
ReplyDeleteYes indeed, on we go! This idea that Chuckles had has been SO helpful. I am really paying attention to what I add now, instead of just automatically adding every book I hear about on NPR. I mean, I still add tons of NPR books, but not as many. That's progress!
DeleteYou've finished 10 books this week!? Dang girl. I wish I could read that much. I'm still kind of in a reading slump but I still force myself to read hoping it'll go away.
ReplyDeleteYou are almost under 4,000! Yay! I'm at 450 right not and want to get it down slowly to 100 in the future. I want to keep it low because I want to just browse my library more in the future and discover books again.
I juggle a few books at a time, and that usually helps me avoid a reading slump, because the books are usually of a wide variety of topics. I know it is harder to do in fiction, where you might mix up characters or something, but it is my secret to success!
DeleteGood luck with whittling down your own list, it is hard to do but worth it when you realize that you are just not as interested as you thought you were in a book.
10 books in a week?? Sheesh, I thought I read fast!
ReplyDeleteAnd that TBR going to be cleared in a year with taking nearly 200 off in a week. How are you deciding what stays and what goes?
This school year is rough, so reading is my therapy. I read after Eleanor goes to bed, usually a couple hours a night. Then I do the same on nights she is at her dad's house, and weekends when she is gone also.
DeleteAs for deciding, it took a long time to figure out the best way to see what I have on the Goodreads list - until I realized you could sort by 'random'. So that is how I sort my to-read list and it really helps bring to the front books that I have not seen since the day I added them. I also search my to-read list by certain words - such as Revolution, Revolutionary War, Washington, etc as my interest in that period has declined. Subjects I was interested in before, I find I am not any longer and that helps remove books as well.
