Stacking the Shelves #199

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature hosted by Reading Reality. It is a chance to showcase all the goodies you've collected throughout the week, whether they're bought on-line or in-store, an ARC or a final copy, borrowed from a friend or the library, physical or digital, etc.

Miiiiiiiiine!
I love this series a lot but am disappointed by the new covers :(
Old cover examples:
Mercy's life is constantly made infinitely more difficult by her crazy/demanding family, bad luck, and the fact that she resembles Marilyn Monroe.

Happy Reading!
Sarah

  1. I hope that you enjoy this book in the series. I wonder why a completely different book cover was selected for this new one? Have a great week!

    1. I have no idea and it is driving me crazy! The previous 12 covers were also redone to look like this one and I HATE IT :( Thanks for coming by!

  2. Somebody in some marketing dept decided that a new updated look was needed. Even though I'm not familiar with the series, it seems unnecessary to mess with something that works. I agree that they older design was more unusual and eye catching. Happy Reading this week Sarah!

    1. RIGHT?! The series is not even done yet. And the new cover is the ONLY one available for this book. They could've waited, though the author is on book 13 and there's no sign of qutting yet so...

Thanks for stopping by, happy reading!

  3. I do so hate it when they 'update' covers from an existing series before that series finishes. Have they NO idea about shelving aesthetics'?

Practically zero from me this week - so only three. All non-fiction but nothing to concern you!

Rising Sun and Tumbling Bear - Russia's War with Japan by Richard Connaughton
Storming Eagles - German Airborne Force in World War II by James Lucas
The Six Wives of Henry VIII by Alison Weir

    1. It is SUPER frustrating. I have them all on my Kindle, so less about shelving for me but I can definitely see this pissing off a lot of the author's other fans who have them all in physical copies. I wish they would have at least waited until the series is done, although this is #13 and there's no end in sight yet, thank Goodness.

Oh, Weir. Why do that to yourself??!! lol

  4. Those are fun covers (the older ones) although I do love the blood dripping lol on the newer one. :) That title too is awesome.

    1. It's a fun series, you might enjoy it. I don't really do cozies except for this series. I found it way back in 2016 when I was behind on my Goodreads challenge for the year and have been reading them ever since.

    2. If you have Kindle Unlimited, you can get I think the first three books and one of the novellas for free.

  5. It's always a little jarring when the style of book covers changes in mid-series, but no doubt what's inside the covers is still satisfying.

    1. It is one of my faves of the whole series so far! But...that cover...they're VERY lucky I only own them on my Kindle and not physical copies. Otherwise we'd have a big problem.

  6. Looks like a good book. I can see why you are disappointed. It is so frustrating when that happens. I want to know who makes those kind of decisions and send them an email!!!!

    Have a great weekend!

    1. Yes!! Especially because the series isn't done yet. I can see changing things up then, but when there is no end yet in sight? Boo.

  7. It is annoying when they change covers like that! I hope you enjoy the book anyway. Have a great weekend!

  9. That is a very different cover. I wonder why they changed it? Hope you enjoy despite the new cover. (Yes, that can throw me at times when I first pick up a book.)

    1. I am 100% a cover snob, so I am not happy. But the book was still really good though.

    1. I am an unashamed cover snob. Covers do really make a difference for me and I guess it is not so much that I hate the new cover even though I said I did, I just loved the aesthetic of the originals. If this was the cover of a book starting off a new series, I would totally read it. It's just that it's book #13, lol

  11. I hate when covers get a redesign and it sucks.

    1. YES!! And this one is not even terrible; if it was the first book in a new series, I would totally read it. But it is the THIRTEENTH book in a series that started a few years ago!! UGH.

  12. I am so glad I looked into getting a review with 100bookreviews.club. They have treated me respectfully, have done everything to create the best opportunities for me in advancing, promoting, and getting the word out about my novel. When an author sends their book in for a review, the one that they will receive, like mine, will be the kind we all hope for—one that is thoughtful, respectful, and shows the author that the reviewer truly understands their story and its message.
