Stacking the Shelves #60

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature co-hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality. It is a chance to showcase all the goodies you've collected throughout the week, whether they're bought on-line or in-store, an ARC or a final copy, borrowed from a friend or the library, physical or digital, etc.

  1. Ooh, more true crime! I could swear I've seen a Mercia book here before, though?

I bought "The Catholic Gentleman" by Sam Guzman...he's the author of a blog I visit periodically. Via interlibrary loan, I received "Shutting Out the Sun: How Japan Created Its Own Lost Generation", which is about these young people who withdraw from society and become shut-ins.

    1. Yep! I first received Mercia as an ARC, but had tech issues so I ended up checking it out from the library once it came in.

I am intrigued by 'Shutting Out the Sun' and now must go looking...

  2. I went a little bit crazy this week - but I told myself that I'm stockpiling for my Retirement... and Brexit... and the Zombie apocalypse... So:

The Moscow Sleepers by Stella Rimington
    I Spy by Claire Kendal

    Non-Fiction:

In Extremis: The Life of War Correspondent Marie Colvin by Lindsey Hilsum
The Uninhabitable Earth - A Story of the Future by David Wallace-Wells
The British in India - Three Centuries of Ambition and Experience by David Gilmour
The Escape Artists - A Band of Daredevil Pilots and the Greatest Prison Breakout of WW1 by Neal Bascomb
Let Our Fame be Great - Journeys Among the Defiant People of the Caucasus by Oliver Bullogh

    1. How far off from retirement for you? Will that come first, or Brexit?? Or will the Zombie Apocalypse beat them both??

    2. My official end date is 8th April 2020 - the day after my 60th birthday. Brexit is (possibly) 31st October. The Zombie Apocalypse is with us right now as you can tell when you see people on their cell phones....

    3. Nice, you are not far off at all!! But still, best to stock up on books, old Boris is going to yank you all out of the EU with no plan in place and fuck everything up. I can not believe he dismissed Parliament. What happens now? Can they override him? No chance of a no-confidence vote this early in his term, right? It's all such a clusterfuck right now!

    1. To be expected, with your family emergency. So glad to know your husband is doing well. The library hauls are getting smaller and smaller because it is much tougher to get to the library as often during the school year as it is in the summer.
