First Line Friday #173

First Line Friday is a weekly feature and simple to do - grab the book nearest you and post the first line. Carrie hosts this over on her blog Reading is my Superpower.

Life for most Viking Age Scandinavians involved hard work on the land, constant insecurity and an early death in their thirties or forties.

Happy Reading!

  1. I hope the author elaborates a bit -- people often confuse the average lifespan of medieval people -- which, containing the enormous number of infant and child deaths, settles in the thirties and forties -- for how long most adults actually lived.

  2. "The stand-off between Britain and Germany from September 1939 to May 1940 has entered the history books as the 'Phoney War'."

'Waiting for War - Britain 1939-1940' by Barry Turner

    1. Ugh. Imagine if the world had decided to not placate Hitler and just taken care of the problem at the start.

    2. Yup. War could've been over in 6 months... Year tops....

  3. Happy Saturday!
I'm currently reading One Wrong Move by Dani Pettrey. I'm almost done!
"Harper and Deckard stood outside Randy Fox's door."
I hope you have a great weekend! 🙂❤️📚
