Welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
This week's topic is my best reads of 2019. This was a really interesting year, in which a ton of my very first reads in 2019 were suuuuuper good. I also read some really shitty drivel that made me want to poor bleach in my eyes just to unsee it, but that's a whole different post, which I will not actually write because it would be mean.
The only order here is chronological, from January up to this very moment. All received five stars, and I gushed about them either on my blog, or in my head thinking up reviews I fully intend to write...eventually.

DeleteThe Hate U Give is one of those titles where I've been saying "I really have to read it" ever since publication, but keep forgetting. So it's going on the priority list for 2020! This year I read a lot more non-fiction than usual and have been really enjoying it, I'm usually scared it will be difficult to get into, dry, boring, etc. But I've been proven wrong! I love that there are so many non-fiction titles on your list, I'm adding a bunch to my tbr.

DeleteSo many important books on here, but the one that stood out was Taking Eichman.

The Eichman book is really interesting, and absolutely critical to making younger generations understand that these criminals will be pursued and punished accordingly until the very last one is gone.

It's easy, just stop cleaning! Just kidding...mostly. My daughter goes to her dad's house every other weekend and a night during the week, so one way I take my mind off of her being gone is t read and read and read! Which books are on your TBR? Maybe once you read them, we can talk about them! I am so behind on reviews, OI!
DeleteI had to laugh when I saw The Wrythe and the Reckoning. A 1286 page debut romance (yeah it was 800 pages but somehow it ballooned to 1286 after the controversy hit, like she had to make it worse by adding words or something)? There's no agent (outside of schmagents) that would take that one! Congrats on your great reading year!

The Five was SO good, and unlike anything else out there to read about the Ripper - mainly because we finally get portraits of the women in their lives, not in their brutal deaths. He is excluded from the narrative almost entirely and I was so grateful to learn more about the victims who did not deserve what happened to them.

The Hate U Give was so, so good. But also hard for me, and I cried for most of it. I spent the last seven years before this school year as a Behavior Skills Program teacher, in a self-contained classroom for students with behavior disorders. There are a disproportionate amount of Black males in special education and so often I would look at these kiddos who I love so much and worry what might happen to them after they left elementary school. I had some kiddos who were big for their ages, looked so much older than they were, and I know that not everyone outside of school will look at them and know them the way I and our paraprofessionals do. The book is so powerful, I wish it was required reading for everyone.
