I am featuring books in the order that they were added to my Goodreads To-Read shelf, so sometimes there will be a couple weeks in a row of books on the same topic.
Neglected Book of the Week
Why did I add The Medieval Castles of Ireland to my TBR?
Because castles are amazing and everyone should have one. But seriously, I love these old castles, especially the ruins. Blarney is probably my favorite, in Ireland anyway. Stirling Castle, in Scotland, is probably my most favorite castle ever.
Have you read this book, or is it somewhere on your TBR? If you've read it, would you recommend it to others?
Happy Reading!
Sarah
I saw some of these castles when I visited Ireland a few years ago.
ReplyDeleteWhich ones?? We saw some that were ruins, and some which are basically museums now with original furnishings or replicas. Honestly, I truly prefer the ruins. Then your imagination can really run wild with what it might have been like at its height.
Deleteireland is such a great country to have as a book location. castles, history and the mystical feel of it make for some great stories

Yes!! I love Ireland, and the castles especially. The castle ruins speak to my soul.
DeleteI would love to visit some of these old castles. I hope you enjoy this one, Sarah!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Carole! I feel like Blarney Castle is a must in Ireland. I also want to go to Leap Castle, which is supposedly super haunted and I am 100% here for that. Stirling is my favorite overall of any castle ever. Though Dublin Castle was cool, and you could go below street level to see the remains of the Viking fort that was once there. I have not seen enough in England to know which is my fave there, but I will go out on a limb and say The Tower will probably win.
DeleteThat would be a neat book. When I researched my family's history for my grandmother who wanted to know more about her family heritage, I discovered that her Irish family had a few castles in County Cork a few centuries back. I wonder if they are in there. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool! Which castles??
DeleteOh I just want to flip through this book! It looks gorgeous! And nothing is better then a castle - especially an Irish one.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Books like this make me so, so happy. It is easy to daydream and imagine what it would have been like at the height of that particular castle's power in the area it controlled.
DeleteI would love to one day travel to Europe, including Ireland and England to visit castles. Does the book include colorful pictures too? I would probably spend my time dreaming about which one I would want to live in. LOL
ReplyDeleteThere are literally ruins all over the countryside in Ireland. It's quite breathtaking to be among such beauty. I don't own all my backlog books so I have not gotten my hands on this one yet but I am hoping photos will be bright and colorful.
