    1. Isn't it just the perfect period in Britain's history to consider other possibilities? Besides 1066, of course. So many events in that thirty year period shaped things in such a decisive way. What if Richard had won Bosworth?? What if Richard and Edward hadn't been murdered? SO MANY POSSIBILITIESSSSSS!

And yes, ol' Liz is one of my least fave monarchs which makes me an anomaly I know, because everyone else LOVES HER.

I read the Flannery book a while back. It's still on my to-review list. I really liked most of it except the last few chapters dealing with the modern world. No need to read about the nightmare we are already living in!

    2. Oh, I DREAM of Harold winning @ Hastings. It really was a close run thing. Imaging if William had died one of those times he lost his horse or if Harold had listened to advice and not attacked before he was ready. Imagine the Normans being pushed into the sea.....

Actually my other favourite fantasy is imagining Boadicea pushing the Romans into the sea and ending the Occupation way back then.... Just IMAGINE!

    3. OMG YAAAASSSSS!!!! TO BOTH OF THESE!!!! Did I ever tell you about the book called 1066 Turned Upside Down? I think so, but it has been a while. It's an alternative history of 1066 and different authors contributed stories on all the different ways things could have gone. They range from the likely Harold winning at Hastings, or losing at Stamford, even to Edgar the Atheling being proclaimed king and Harold supporting him, instead of him being crowned after Harold died. There were some that were also much more speculative, I guess but that is not the right word either, like one of the stories was about Romans existing in hiding and playing a part in keeping the world functioning. I so badly wanted Harold to win at Hastings, if only he had waited for more troops, and rested his men. But on the other hand, I don't know if I am willing to give up Eleanor of Aquitaine - we might never have known who she was.

I always tell Eleanor she is lucky I discovered Eleanor of Aquitaine before I discovered the mighty Iceni warrior queen Boudicca, or her name would have been very unusual! That has not stopped me from calling Eleanor by that as a nickname though! I called her my little boo-ga-loo when she was a baby, and then it evolved into booga, then boody, then Boudicca. She still responds to all of them, lol

  3. I like the sound of the Alternative History one on the war of the roses! I love that period of history so I'd be curious about the "alternative history" edition. :)

    1. And I think it is really the perfect period to look at because SO MUCH happened in that thirty-year span, so many events that would have drastically altered the history of the UK had they gone differently. I am excited to get into it!

  4. Yay for more Unlimited! Living in Medieval England sounds good. They're probably less ass backwards than we are right now lol.

    1. Right?? Maybe a little cottage with a thatched roof would be preferable, although then we'd be dealing with the Plague, so...

  5. I've been so hesitant to get a kindle unlimited subscription. I'm just afraid my TBR would balloon into being even more crazy than it already is! Teacher in Space looks like such an intriguing read. Her story is so tragic and fascinating!

    1. I tried it out a couple years ago, doing the thirty day trial of Prime and thirty day trial of KU at the same time to see which was better selection-wise. I ended up going with KU for a while, but cancelled it after a few months because I just was not finding a lot that was already on my TBR. When I got my new Kindle I was given a three month free trial of KU again, and I found all those disaster books, most of which were not on my TBR.

I am super excited to start Teacher in Space. I can't imagine her family, so excited and watching the shuttle launch. What an absolutely devastating thing to witness and process.

  7. Oh, the Christa McCauliff books looks interesting. That was nice of KU to give you another month. Devious, but nice. :D

  8. Lots of NetGalley books this week. I am trying so hard not to look at NetGalley. I saw an offer to sign up for Kindle Unlimited for a couple of months at no charge. I am tempted but I usually don't end up using it when I have it.

    1. I have done so well for so long with keeping away from NetGalley, but then Lindsi from Do You Dog-ear? had some new treasures, so I took one tiny peek...and here we are. I have been granted all my wishes and all my requests have been approved, and there are still six pending! The blessings and curses of having a high ratio! I was at 96%, now I am at 85%.

At this point I will not pay for KU any longer. There are just not enough books I want to read from my TBR. I can't justify spending the money.

  9. I can imagine it would be impossible to pass up another free month. :-) I've never tried Kindle Unlimited. Teacher in Space sounds interesting. I still remember watching everything unfold on the television in my middle school classroom that fateful day. Such a tragedy. A Most Wicked Conspiracy also sounds like it will be good one. McKenzie is such an interesting historical figure. It really brings to home how little things have changed. I hope you have a great week. Stay safe and well.

    1. RIGHT??!! I know I will never pay for it again, but while it is free I might as well use it. I try not to grow my TBR too much, so I have to be very careful. I thought Teacher in Space would be a great read because I was so young when it happened, only three; all of my knowledge comes from news reports and such. Happy Reading, be well!
