First Line Friday is brought to you by Hoarding Books. Playing along is easy: open the book nearest you and share the first line. Then check out the link to see the other first lines posted this week.
From goodreads: When Molly, home alone with her two young children, hears footsteps in the living room, she tries to convince herself it's sleep deprivation. She's been hearing things these days. Startling at loud noises. Imagining the worst-case scenario. It's what mothers do, she knows.
But then the footsteps come again, and she catches a glimpse of movement.
Suddenly Molly finds herself face-to-face with an intruder who knows far too much about her and her family. As she attempts to protect those she loves most, Molly must also acknowledge her own frailty. Molly slips down an existential rabbit hole where she must confront the dualities of motherhood: the ecstasy and the dread; the languor and the ferocity; the banality and the transcendence as the book hurtles toward a mind-bending conclusion.
"She crouched in front of the mirror, clinging to them. The baby in her right arm, the child in her left."
Happy Reading!
Sarah

We Have Been Harmonised - Life in China's Surveillance State by Kai Strittmatter
Quite relevant now, especially. Vastly different countries from then to now.

ReplyDeleteI did. But...our opinions vary widely on it! I am glad I read it however, because I am trying to branch out into more kinds of fiction.
DeleteOh wow, this has me hooked!!! This sounds GREAT! Happy Friday!!
ReplyDeleteit had me hooked too but then...kind of fell apart? I feel like there were tons of missed opportunities for further exploration, but there are many people who really liked it a lot so don't let my opinion deter you!
DeleteHappy Friday! My first line is from "The Color of Love" by Kimberly Rae Jordan:
ReplyDelete"Charles Beaumont Allerton Junior tugged at the hem of his button-up shirt, hoping to work out some of the wrinkles that his rapid - and poor - packing job had created."
Happy Friday to you as well, thanks for sharing!
Delete"It was near the close of the year 1780, that a solitary traveller was seen pursuing his way through one of the numerous little valleys of West-Chester."

DeleteIt is supposed to snow here tomorrow! We went to our church this morning for the drive-thru Easter egg hunt. It was such a relief to see our pastors, it's just not the same on a computer screen or texting.
DeleteHappy Easter!
Happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteToday I'm sharing from chapter 27 in The Happy Camper by Melody Carlson.

Happy Friday to you as well Nicole!
DeleteHappy Saturday! Today, I'm sharing the first line from Before I Called You Mine by Nicole Deese: "If Obsessive Email Checking Disorder were a disease, I was likely already in the final stages: trigger thumb, mindless refreshing, aimless scrolling, and of course, an inability to focus on anything else in the entire world."

Happy Saturday to you as well, and happy reading!
DeleteI really do like the sound of this one. I hope you are enjoying it!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely give it a try, if you are so inclined. I actually ended up hating it and I don't know how to write the review without spoilers, but literally anything I say will spoil SOMETHING. I am in a bind! :-|
DeleteI may want to read this someday. I have heard good things about Helen Phillips.
ReplyDeleteLast Friday I was reading The Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood. I finished it on Saturday, second reading, so great!
First line(s): The story of Zenia ought to begin when Zenia began. It must have been someplace long ago and distant in space, thinks Tony; someplace bruised and very tangled."
Lovely, thank you for sharing your line.
DeleteI really ended up hating this book. Hopefully it will work better for you!
