Books From The Backlog #45

Books from the Backlog, hosted by Carole's Random Life in Books, is a fun way to feature some of those neglected books sitting on your shelf unread.

I am featuring books in the order that they were added to my Goodreads To-Read shelf, so sometimes there will be a couple weeks in a row of books on the same topic.

Why did I add Death and the Virgin Queen to my TBR?

Because this is one of the ultimate unsolvable mysteries of the age. Robert Dudley's wife was found dead at their home while he was off at Court, wooing QEI as always. Suicide, accidental death, or murder?

Bonus, I actually own this one!

Have you read this book, or is it somewhere on your TBR? If you've read it, would you recommend it to others?

Happy Reading!
Sarah

  1. i read about this episode some time in the past: fascinating period... i'll look for... no i won't, nothing is open anymore; maybe abebooks has it for a decent price: i'll take a look - they want $5 for it, not bad... but i think i'll wait for the next ss check, haha...

    1. All of that is so depressing...nothing is open, Amazon is evil, but we still NEED BOOKS!

  2. Oh, sounds fabulous. I haven't read this one, but should add it to my list.

    1. I have read another book by this author, Edward VI: The Lost King of England. It was good, so I am looking forward to this one, but cautious because there is so much we simply don't know.

  3. This has always been such a fascinating topic. I've read several books where it was addressed and I still can't make up my mind. Enjoy!

    1. I can't either! I know this won't provide a concrete answer, but maybe because it is about this subject specifically, there will be more information to sway my mind one way or the other. I always go back and forth and over yonder on all three possibilities.

  4. I'm not surprised to see this one on your list. I know how much you enjoy this subject matter! It kind of reminds me with all the thrillers I set to read. There's always more to read than I'll ever have time for lol.

    1. That is our blessing and our curse, always plenty to read, never enough time to read it all. But, my pastor made a great point one day when I was lamenting the fact that I will never get to read all the books I want to, and just think of all the books I will want to read that have not even been published yet. He just kind of cocked his head to the side and said, "Sarah, what do you think Heaven will be for you?" And DUH! It will be a library, of course. I may have told you this story. If so, I am sorry. If not, well, there you go!

  5. I've read a historical mystery by Fiona Buckley that tackled this death. It is fun to speculate and it really could have been any of the above reasons.

    1. I wish we could know for sure. I am looking forward to seeing what evidence he presents, and what case he makes.

    1. Thank you Sherry - I may even get to start it tonight, after I finally get to respond to the 50+ comments collected over my week-long absence! It is on my coffee table waiting for me as we speak...er, type!

    1. These are my faves but also so frustrating because in the end it is only guesswork. Still fun, though. Same with the Princes in the Tower. Unless QEII allows the remains discovered in the 1600s to be tested (or if they have been tested, to TELL US!), we will never know. I'm guessing they know, but the public probably won't ever be privy to that information.
