#BlackLivesMatter | Say His Name #GeorgeFloyd

I have debated whether or not to post something about the murder of yet another Black man by an officer who should have had his badge taken away long ago, who never should have been an officer in the first place.

My head hurts, and my heart hurts. This man did nothing to deserve to be murdered, to have his life slowly extinguished as he begged for breath, for his mother, and the witnessed pleaded for this murderer to stop.

I can't quite put into words what I am thinking and feeling right now. I have tried many many times. But, I do know this:

If you are more concerned about property damage than an innocent man being murdered by an asshole with a badge in broad daylight on video for the whole world to see, and then when the murderer is FINALLY arrested a couple days later the charge is a laughable 3rd degree because this was NOT an accident, then fuck you.

You are part of the problem.

    1. It has. His loot and shoot comments are inciting more violence. I am furious. I am beyond furious. People have tried protesting peacefully, and so many still are - I want that to be very clear to everyone reading this. Minnesota is my home, I grew up in the Twin Cities, and I love it more than words can describe. My whole family is there and I am getting news directly from Minnesota news stations. But, when those peaceful protests are shouted down, no one should be surprised when protesters start using other means to communicate their pain and rage and frustration.

    2. it happened in the sixties during the Nam war and it's happening again because of the idiocy of the government... no learning curve here, it seems...

    3. We've not learned from our history and thus are doomed to repeat it. And it is only going to get worse I fear.

  2. Well said. I can only second your sentiments.

  3. I've been catching up on the news today, and it's all terrible. The man with a bow and arrow (apparently multiple incidents of people being shot at with arrows), people assaulting reporters just for talking about what's happening around them (not all reporters are assholes, just human beings trying to do their jobs and report the news), the president making ignorant comments (he's just an idiot)... and I feel like it's going to get worse before it gets better. We're still in the middle of a pandemic, there are people rioting and protesting in large numbers, and I'm really worried about what the world will look like next year.

John F. Kennedy said, "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable." I think those words are very applicable to what's happening right now.

    1. 100% accurate. People didn't like the peaceful protests by Kaep when he knelt, or the NBA players who wore shirts that said "I can't breathe". Well, guess what? People are angry. Things are going to get so much worse, before they get better.

    1. I can't understand, because I have never faced the racism that my friends and their children have, sometimes on a daily basis. But I can listen. I can amplify their voices so more people hear them. It is long past time for change.

  5. OMG, OMG. Now I am worried that all that lack of social distancing will cause an increase of COVID cases. We had a curfew in Los Angeles last night. Black Lives Matter!

    1. Many protesters I saw were wearing masks last night. The social distancing was not there, but masks at least. I could not sit home for a second night in a row, so I went out for three hours last night. I will be posting about it soon.

  6. The anger and frustration are real. Agreed, that George Floyd didn't deserve that.

    1. Very real. When peaceful protests are shouted down, people get louder. And sometimes they get louder with actions instead of words.

  7. I completely agree. I am sad, mad, and confused all at the same time. We must do better.

    1. I am angry, so angry. Last night a young Black man was murdered in Omaha by a business owner known in the community to be racist, homophobic, and transphobic. Big surprise, he has not been arrested. I probably don't have to tell you that he is white.

  8. What disturbs me is the the communities that are hit the worst are the black communities. If you're outraged at what you perceive as injustice against black people, why are you looting and destroying the property of your own community. I think that evil people will take anything as an excuse to exercise their lust to destroy and hurt and kill.

    1. I am from Minnesota, and the grew up there. I am getting a lot of the news directly from the reports there. The governor, mayor, and police chief all stated that so far about 80% of the arrests made for the property damage and destruction are not from Minnesota. People are coming from outside the state to stir up trouble. The majority of those arrested last night in Omaha were white. I don't think this is a coincidence. There were also several reports from Minneapolis and St Paul of property being damaged in majority-Black neighborhoods by groups of white men.
