Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature co-hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality. It is a chance to showcase all the goodies you've collected throughout the week, whether they're bought on-line or in-store, an ARC or a final copy, borrowed from a friend or the library, physical or digital, etc.
Library Treasures (ebook/curbside pick-up!)
I've already finished Perfect Little Children, The Sun Down Motel, and Eight Perfect Murders. Reviews to hopefully come this weekend in between all these professional development hours we have to do to prepare for teaching remotely the next school year if it comes to that - or any time in the future.
Happy Reading!
Sarah
You have a library doing curbside pickup? Oh I wish I did.
ReplyDeleteNo new ones in for me this week, though I have two in the mail.
Our small-town library has been doing curbside since the closure, and you can check out up to five items at a time. The larger system of Omaha Public Libraries has only recently started. I think there are like, fifteen branches? Maybe ten? So it probably took a bit to coordinate and plan for curbside. Only four branches are open to get curbside service from and they are legit about this. You pull into a numbered parking spot and call the library to let them know you have arrived. You give your name and your numbered spot. Someone brings out your books in a bag and they leave them on the bench where the parking spot numbers are affixed. You can't get out to get your materials until the staff member has gone back into the library. I am glad they are taking this seriously.
DeleteFabulous! I can hope.
DeleteIt is working really well, so hopefully soon you will be able to add to your TBR again :)
DeleteA respectable 5 for me this week...
ReplyDeleteNon-fiction:
Infectious Disease - A Very Short Introduction by Marta L Wayne & Benjamin M Bolker
Epidemiology - A Very Short Introduction by Rodolfo Saracci
Public Health - A Very Short Introduction by Virginia Berridge
(Another 2 in that series in the post to make up an upcoming pandemic 'Book Blitz').
Fiction:
The Bone Collectors by Brian Callison
Finisterre by Graham Hurley
Very nice. I look forward to your reviews - I think I am over my disaster and pandemic phase now.
DeleteIs Perfect Little Children as messed up as the name and cover makes it sound and look?
ReplyDeleteMy Post:

It's hard to explain, because I ended up hating the book! Yes, it is super messed up because of the premise, but also because of the insufferable main character who I wanted to throttle.
DeleteYou finally made some great progress on all your holds! I already know what you thought of Perfect Little Children *hides before you throw the book at me :)*, but I'm eager to see your thoughts on the others!
ReplyDeleteYou will probably not be surprised to know that I am already done with or have DNF-ed all of these. I LOVED Sun Down. I was so happy as I read to find that The Broken Girls did not color my view of this one at all, or vice versa. They're both fantastic. I loved Eight Perfect Murders...until the reveal. It was kind of disappointing because I felt so sorry for him prior to that, feeling like he was not useful and such anymore, being retired, etc. Even so, it was a good read that I enjoyed. I have only a few hours left of the Professional Development videos to watch and then plan to read and review the rest of today and tomorrow before piking Eleanor up from her dad's!
DeleteEight Perfect Murders sounds good. And I'm curious about the Sun Down Motel. I wish you happy reading.
ReplyDeleteEight Perfect Murders was really good until the reveal. It still is not a bad book, but I was marginally let down. Not every reader has felt that way though, so it is definitely one I am still recommending. As for Sun Down, omg yes. Read it. Read it read it read it.
