Books From The Backlog #48

Books from the Backlog, hosted by Carole's Random Life in Books, is a fun way to feature some of those neglected books sitting on your shelf unread.

I am featuring books in the order that they were added to my Goodreads To-Read shelf, so sometimes there will be a couple weeks in a row of books on the same topic.

Why did I add The Child Bride to my TBR?

Because Anne Mowbray is as intriguing a figure as the Princes in the Tower, particularly due to her early death. She has been wed to Richard, the younger of the two princes, and died three weeks after the last sighting of the princes. Anne was buried at Westminster and much attention was given to her funeral, yet her coffin was found nearly five miles away at Stepney where there had once been a medieval nunnery. Even more interesting, she had been buried in a sealed chamber eleven feet below ground.

So many questions, though this may be a tough book to find as they are not many used copies are to be found. In fact, as I was working on this post, I decided to see what was available on Amazon. Found a hardcover for $16. Plus I had $10+ in cash back on prime purchases and free shipping. It is coming from the UK, so it will be a bit, but I can't wait to dive in!

Have you read this book, or is it somewhere on your TBR? If you've read it, would you recommend it to others?

Happy Reading!
Sarah

  1. I so LOVE getting a book that's difficult to find.........

Plus: "she had been buried in a sealed chamber eleven feet below ground". Plague? Some other unknown disease that scarred the bajesus out of people? Either that or she was a suspected witch and being posh & all they couldn't just hang her..... [muses] Interesting!

    1. RIGHT?!?! What were they hiding? Was she murdered too? And even if that was true, why the crazy lengths to hide the body? Not like CSI is going to investigate. She was EIGHT when she died.

    1. I have had this book on my TBR for so long, and decided I could not put it off any longer. She was only eight when she died, which makes this all the more suspicious and strange. Book was shipped in early May, so it should be here in a few more days.

  3. I've never read this book, but it does sound really interesting. Did they answer some of the questions here? It is weird she was buried five miles away in a sealed chamber. Hope you enjoy the book!

    1. Thanks Rachel! I have not received the book yet - it is coming from the UK so those always take a while. But I ordered it in early May and it should be here within the next week or so. I will be reading it as soon as it arrives.

  4. Stories around the Princes in the Tower always intrigue me. I didn't realize Richard's bride had some mystery around her, too. Hope you enjoy it when it comes.

    1. I did not either until I found this book on Goodreads a few years ago. And writing up this post re-ignited my curiosity. It shipped a couple weeks ago so I am hoping it will be here within the next week.

  6. I have not read this one but it sounds fascinating. From my backlog, I am reading The Labyrinth of the Spirits by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. It is fitting in with my current interest in the Spanish Civil War.
